A obra do homem transformou o nosso planeta. Deixamos nossos vestígios em todos os lugares pelos quais passamos ou habitamos. E essa obra forma um coletivo fascinante, principalmente pela sua decadência. Através da arte e das construções, o homem buscou a imortalidade, buscou derrotar o tempo e a morte. Cada civilização se julgava eterna, sagrada. Mas o que eram suas cidades além de formigueiros humanos – um grande amontoado de seres que constroem sonhos e castelos de areia?
Perambular pelas ruínas deixadas por civilizações passadas mostra não só quão grandiosas eram, como também quão frágeis somos perante o tempo. Os templos e mausoléus são especialmente fascinantes, pois concentram o máximo de esforço e arte de um povo ao mesmo tempo em que encerram nelas as cinzas da imortalidade – são monumentos à futilidade.
Man’s labor has transformed our planet. We leave our vestiges everywhere we go or inhabit. And this work forms a fascinating collection, especially because of its decay. Through his art and constructions, man has sought immortality, the defeat of time and death. Each civilization thought of itself as eternal and sacred. But what were their cities other than human anthills––a great agglomeration of beings building dreams and sand castles?
The ruins left behind by past civilizations show not just how great they were, but also how fragile we are before time. The temples and mausoleums are especially fascinating, for they concentrate the maximum effort and art of a people at the same time that they encase within them the ashes of immortality––they are monuments to futility.
